Cadwell, Austa

Halstead Independent

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Halstead for Mrs. Austa Cadwell who died in Great Bend Sunday. Burial was in Halstead Cemetery.

Austa Williamson, daughter of James H. and Eliza Lehr Williamson was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, February 14, 1867. She passed away at Great Bend, Kansas on April 22, 1945 at the age of 78 years 2 months 8 days. She came to Butler county, Kansas with her parents in the early '70's. Later she taught school in Harvey county for four years.

On February 1, 1890, she was united in marriage to Charles Hiram Cadwell. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Estella Cain of Long Beach, California and Mrs. Agnes Hemminger, Great Bend, Kansas. Mr. & Mrs. Cadwell made their home on a farm six miles southwest of Halstead from the time of their marriage until the spring of 1941 at which time they moved to Halstead.

Early in life she united with the Methodist church in Burrton, Kansas. She was also a life member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivers: one sister, Mrs. Mary B. Shidler of Seattle, Washington; one brother, Hudson Williamson of Iola, Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Estella Cain and Mrs. Agnes Hemminger; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren..
