Thompson, Rebecca

Halstead Independent

Rebecca McIntyre was born May 11, 1864 in Frederick county, Virginia, daughter of Samuel and Sarah McIntyre. The family moved to Indiana in 1867. In 1879, with her father and mother, two sisters and seven brothers, she moved to Halstead, Kansas. One sister remained in Indiana. The home at first was just north of Halstead on a farm. They then moved to a farm three miles west of Halstead.

She united with the Christian church in 1882 and transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church of Halstead September 1, 1918. She was a regular participant in the church activities so long as her health permitted.

On September 29, 1885 she was united in marriage with Clarence E. Chompson. Mr. & Mrs. Thompson took Nellie McAlexander, Mrs. Thompson's niece, into their home as a foster daughter when she was five years of age and made a home for her until her marriage to Mr. Pyle of Sublette, Kansas.

One sister, Mrs. Sadie Dundon of Nampa, Idaho; and two brothers, William McIntyre, Byron, Oklahoma and Samual McIntyre, Newton survive. These together with sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, friends, mourn the passing of Mrs. Thompson. She passed from this life quietly on November 4, 1937, age 73 years, 5 months, 24 days.

Services were held from the church with burial in the Halstead Cemetery.
