William LaFayette Williams was born in Lancaster District, South Carolina December 23, 1821 in Kershaw District, South Carolina and died January 18, 1909. He lived in South Carolina until he was 16 years of age, then moved with his parents to Georgia where he lived two years, then moved to Alabama, where he lived until he moved to Kansas in 1876, where he resided until his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Virginia Ann Barnett in Alabama on December 4, 1848. There were born to this union 10 chidren, 5 of whom survive him besides about 50 grand children. He leaves a heart broken wife and a host of friends to mourn his loss.

He united with the Baptist church in 1852 in Alabama, then with the Bethany Baptist church near Bentley,, Kansas, which he was a constant member at the time of his death. He was a man who loved all and respected all, and was a loving husband and father.

His funeral was conducted by his pastor, A. L. Stanfield, at his home on January 21, 1909 which was attended by a large concourse of neighbors and friends after which he was laid to rest in the cemetery in Halstead, Kansas.
