Mildred Hege Sayler, former resident of Halstead died October 26, 1965 at Palomar Memorial Hospital in Escondido, California at the age of 63. She was born in Halstead and attended the Halstead schools, graduating from the high school as valdiectorian of her class in 1920. She received her A.B. degree from Occidental College in Los Angeles and her Masters degree from Columbia University. She taught in the elementary schools in Los Angeles and at Occidental College before her marriage to Charles Hollis Sayler on March 23, 1929. She was born June 29, 1902, daughter of Menno S. & Katherine Baer Hege, at Halstead, Kansas.

The Saylers were editors and publishers of the Halstead Independent from 1937 to 1940. Mrs. Sayler was a member of the Halstead Presbyterian Church, Chapter AK, PEO, and the American Association of University Women while she lived in Halstead.

At the time of her death she was a deacon in the Hawthorne, Nevada, Presbyterian Church and a member of the building committee.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Charles Hege Sayler of the US Weather Bureau in San Francisco and a brother, Daniel Hege of Escondido, California.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in Halstead with Rev. Michael Harvis officiating. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
