Koehn, Otis

Halstead Independent

A Halstead farmer apparently strangled accidentally Saturday while working in a silo on a neighbor's farm.

Otis Koehn, 41, was found under two feet of silage when fellow workers, on the outside, failed to get a response to their calls. He apparently had been caught on the rope of a distributor unit, a device used to deliver ensilage to the silo. Working on the outside were two of his brothers and a nephew, Rawleigh Koehn, 13.

The farm on which they were working, a mile north of Halstead, is owned by Cecil Keller. Koehn was a lifetime resident of Halstead.

Survivors: his widow, Norma; six sons, Weldon, Daniel; Charles; Floyd; Sanford and Larry all of the home, daughter, Edith, also of the home; five brothers, Menno; Noah; Harley; and Lucas, all of Halstead and Allen of Sedgwick; three sisters, Mrs. LaVerne Nightingale; Chickasha, Oklahoma; Mrs. Lloyd Dick, Hesston; and Mrs. Merle Schmidt, Halstead.

Services will be at the Grace Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the Halstead Cemetery.
