Obituary

Norman E. Thornhill, 68, Halstead, died January 21, 1997 at Columbia Halstead Hospital. He was born July 9, 1928 in Halstead, the son of Eugene and Ruth (Lentz) Thornhill. He was a field construction supervisor for Vulcan Chemical for 39 years, retiring in August 1990.

He went through Halstead schools, graduating from Halstead High School in 1946 and attended Kansas State University for one year, playing in the band and serving as a member of ROTC. He was vice president of the Halstead Cemetery Association and vice president of the Halstead Library Board. One of his big projects as a amember of the library board was the remodeling of the library basement after the flood in 1993. He was a member of the American Welding Society for many years.

He married LaWanda Cochran on March 14, 1947 in Wichita. They enjoyed camping trips, motorcycle riding, boating, fishing and hunting.
Survivors: wife of the home; son, Lance Thornhill of Fort Worth, Texas; father and step-mother, Eugene and Thora Thornhill, McPherson; sister, Colleen Unruh, Halstead. He was preceded in death by his mother in March of 1988 and a son, Norman (Butch) Thornhill, Jr. in December of 1977.
