Alma Rose (Schenk) Herl

Alma Rose Herl, 68, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at her residence. She was born October 6, 1942 at Hays to Albert M. and Alice Elizabeth (Sack) Schenk, both are deceased.

She was a Halstead resident for 39 years and was a teacher in Hutchinson public schools, most recently teaching at Liberty Middle School. For many years, she was a substitute teacher for the Halstead-Bentley district as well.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society and the Red Hatters, all of Halstead and the Bentley Girls, Bentley.

On August 10, 1963 she married Larry Gene Herl in Hays. He preceded her in death February 8, 1992.

Survivors: sons; Brandon (Kristi) Herl, ElPaso, Texas; Damon (Wendy) Herl, Halstead; daughter; Alison (Michael) Potthoff, Panaora, Iowa; sister, Alice Berning, Bismark, North Dakota; nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Brent Herl; daughter Elizabeth Herl; and brothers, Abbie and Alan Schenk.

Rosary and Vigil will be Thursday and Mass of the Christian Burial will be Friday. Inurnment will follow at Halstead Cemetery, Halstead, Kansas.
