Wright, Catherine H.

Halstead Independent

Mrs. Catherine Henrietta White Wright was born in Montreal, Canada on February 26, 1892. She moved with her parents to Illinois in the spring of 1840. She was married to Daniel Wright on May 14, 1858 at Gilman, Illinois. Six children were born to them, all in Illinois, four of them who survive. They are E. J.; V. C.; her only daughter, Blanche A. of Halstead and one son, G. U. of Twin Falls, Idaho.

Thirty years ago Monday they came to Halstead and lived for some years on a farm 6 miles southwest of Halstead. A little over 24 years ago, they moved to Halstead where Mr. Wright died just 24 years to the day after his first arrival in Halstead.

On August 18, last, Mrs. Wright was striken with paralysis, but quickly recovered and had been quite well until Sunday morning when she was suddenly taken ill and passed away at noon Monday, on the sixth anniversary of her husbands death and exactly 30 years after coming to Halstead.

Only one brother survives; James M. White of California. C. S. White, who was a blacksmith here some years ago was a brother of the deceased.

Besides her own children, Mrs. Wright raised a family of five, the children of her husband by his first wife. Mrs. Wright ws a modest and unassuming woman, quite and retiring in disposition, a faithful wife, a kind hearted mother. To her family and friends just prior to her death, she expressed a desire to depart and be with the loved ones; most of whom, she said "were over there".

She was laid to rest in the cemetery north of Halstead. Services were conducted by Rev. John Milton Oliver, of the Presbyterian church.
