Branine, Nannie

Mrs. Ezra Branine
Mrs. Ezra Branine (nee Nannie Rigby, daughter of the late Mr. Mrs. J. A. Rigby of Concordia, passed away at her home in this city, Thursday, May 17 at the age of seventy eight years. Funeral services were held in her memory Saturday, May 19 at St. Matthew's Episcopal church with Rev. Earl Minturn, the rector in charge. He was assisted in the service by Mrs. Minturn, organist, and the choir of the church who sang three hymns. Craig Roberts assisted at the alter.
Mrs. Branine had long been identified with the life of Newton coming here from Concordia to visit her sister, Miss May Rigby, teacher in the Newton school system, and later the wife of Charles E. Branine.
Like her sister, Nannie remained in Newton becoming the wife of Ezra Branine who was associated with his brother Charlie in the practice of law.
The new home was established September 4, 1895 and was a modest one as were the homes of many of their newly married friends whose means were meager. The young wife was thrifty, and continued through the years to be a wise spender, looking well the ways of her household. The welfare of her family was her first thought, and she not only a good helpmate to her husband, but a companion and good playfellow to the son and daughter who came to bless the home.
She had a merry laugh, and met the vieissitudes of life happily and courageously.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal church and of the Beaucent and of the Ladies Reading Circle.
During World War One she was active in war relief and in the work of the Harvey County canteen.
Her interest in club work became county wide and she served as president of the Harvey County Federation of Women's Clubs.
She is survived by her husband and her son, Alden E. and wife, and her daughter Mildred Ice and husband: and by six grandchildren: Mrs. Rosemary Roberts, Misses Janne, Nancy, and Elizabeth Branine; Miss Winifred Ice and Teddy Ice.
She was the youngest of her parents family of six children, her sister Mrs. C.F. Branine of Salem, West Virginia being the sole survivor.
Friends who bore her casket to its resting place were: J. E. Regier, C.W. Claassen, H. G. Hawk, John Flinn, Kirk Scott, and Walter Reese.
I. W. Drapper and Mrs. Dick Morris of the Morris-Drapper Mortuary had charge of all arrangements.
