Willard A. Challender, 72, Sedgwick, died November 8, 1986 at St. Francis Medical Center, Wichita. He was born December 31, 1913 in Halstead, the son of Alton R. Challender and Elizabeth Belle Severance Challender. He married Dolores Horton June 2, 1940 in Abbyville,

Mr. Challender was a retired dairyman and farmer and had been a Sedgwick resident since 1920. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sedgwick, the National Horseshoe Pitching Association, and the Mid-Kansas Horseshoe Pitching League.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Craig, Farmville, Virginia and Paul, Emporia; four daughters, Beth Holloway, Wichita; Joy Challender Child, Putnam, Conn; Melinda Latimore, Halstead and Tamara Challender of the home; one sister, Maxine Smith, Newton; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kent, who died in 1981.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the church with the Rev. Wayne Castle. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick.
