Melburn J. Dettweiler, died July 18, 1991 at Waterloo, Illinois, where he had been living with one of his daughters. He was born June 3, 1918 at Halstead, son of Carl and Alieda Kliewer Dettweiler. A lifetime resident, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church and the American Legion Post #231, both at Halstead and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

On January 22, 1948 he married Thelma Ferne Tucker at Tulsa, Oklahoma. She survives. Other survivors: Pamela M. Galliart, Halstead; Jaynee Lee Dettweiler, Waterloo, Illinois and Micki Lord Akers, Renton, Washington; his father, Carl Dettweiler, Halstead; sister, Florence Wilson, Hutchinson and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Willis Dettweiler.

Services were held July 22 at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead, Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Sssociation or to the American Diabetes Association.
