Katherine (Berger) Keller

Katie Berger, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Berger was born April 28, 1879 at Summerfield, Illinois and departed this life February 19. 1947 at the Halstead Hospital at the age of 67 years, 9 months 20 days. At the age of 3 her parents together with 1 brother and 3 sisters moved to Kansas and located in Garden township in Harvey County.

On April 28, 1898 she was united in marriage to Jacob J. Keller in Salisbury, Missouri where they resided until 1903, at which time they came to Harvey county and established themselves upon their farm north of Halstead. To this union were born 6 children. Five survive her.

Mrs. Keller became a member of the Mennonite church at an early age and led an exemplary Christian life. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mr. & Mrs. Keller left the farm and purchased a home in Halstead where Mrs. Keller continued to live since her husband's death on May 2, 1944.

One daughter, Hattie, preceded her in death on May 2, 1941. She leaves to mourn her departure, one daughter, Mrs. B. H. Baumann; four sons, Oliver and Raymond, of Harper, Kansas; Arthur and Cecil of Halstead, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Clarence Hughes of Halstead; one son-in-law, Sam Baumann; three daughters-in-laws, Mrs. Oliver Keller, Mrs. Arthur Keller and Mrs. Cecil Keller; 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Memorial services were conducted from the First Mennonite church of Halstead Friday, February 21. Burial was in the family lot in the Halstead Cemetery.
