Butler, Dorothy Beaty Lee

Dorothy Marie Beaty Lee Butler, 88, Halstead, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998 at the Halstead Hospital. She was born July 11, 1909 at rural Marion Coounty, the daughter of Samuel H. and Edna Ruth Yaughar Beaty. She graduated from Halstead High School in 1926 and attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and Chillicothe Business College. A resident of Halstead since 1917, she was a homemaker, a former teacher in Riverside Rural School District 25, a former bookkeeper for Mantle's Department Store, Halstead, and retired from Farmers Co-op and Mercantile Company in Halstead in 1974 where she was a bookkeeper. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Helianthos Sr., Halstead Hospital Auxiliary, all of Halstead and was a member and former Grand Officer of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 5 in Newton.

She married Robert E. Lee at Salamanca, New York on May 29, 1940. He was killed in action in Germany during World War II on March 13, 1945. On June 5, 1959, she married Milton H. Butler at Halstead. He died December 25, 1990.

Survivors: son, Robert E. Lee, Jr., Haven; daughter, Jeanette Emert, Halstead; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Beaty and three sisters, Zelma Beaty, Mildred Weatherford and Vera Trovillion.

Services were held at First Methodist Church with burial in the Halstead Cemetery.
