Buller, Irvin Deston

Harvey County Independent

Irvin Deston Buller, 74, lifelong Halsted resident, died Saturday June 3, 2000 at Memorial Home in Moundridge. He was born to Danaiel C. and Elizabeteh E. Becker Fuller on June 9, 1925 on a farm 4 1/2 miles west of Halstead. He gres up on the family farm, one of a large family of 12 children.

He was drafted in April 1945 and served as a typist and dental technician in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Seoul, Korea and discharged in 1946.

He met his future wife, Ruby Duncan when both were attending Wichita Business Collete. They were married on December 23, 1951 in Kinsley, Kansas.

After taking accounting and finance courses at Wichita Business College, he worked for Buller Feed Mills, his father's business. Later he entered a management training program with Farmers Co-op in Halstead. Later he served as manager and cashier of the Bentley Bank. He transferred to the Halstead Bank in September 1969 as vice president. He served the banking and Halstead communities in many ways. He served as president of the Havey County Bankers Association and was Key Banker for Harvey County. He served as the city treasurer for Halstead for several years. He was a member of the Lions Club for 35 years, serving as the secretary-treasurer for several years and as the president for one year. He served as both the president and treasurer of the Halstead Chamber of Commerce. He was Master of Masonic Lodge No. 46 in Halstead and served on the Harvey County Economic Development Association committee.

Survivors: his wife of 48 years, Ruby; daughters, Melonie Buller and husband, Charlie Wilson of Columbus, Ohio and Diana Buller of Halstead; brothers, Jonas Buller of Moundridge; Reuben Buller, Moundridge, and Chris and wife Karen Buller of Newton; sisters, Amanda Unruh, Edna and husband, Menno Koehn; Hilma and husband, Willis Dirks, Ada and Husband, Clayton Koehn; Helen and husband, Lorne Reimer, all of Halstead, and Judy and husband Alton Koehn of Detroit, Texas; sister-in-law Betty Buller of Halstead and Rachel Buller, Waco, Texas; four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Katherine Buller; two brothers, Aaron Buller and Edwin (Jim) Buller; brother-in-law, Mose Unruh and two sister-in-law, Bertha Buller and Marie Buller.

Services were held June 13 at First Mennonite Church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Mennonite Church.
