Obituary

Arthur Dean Burnett, M.D., 87, passed into eternal life Norvember 3, 2008. He was born September 2, 1921 at Halstead to Frank Arthur and Mary Eugenia Reeder Burnett. he grew up in Halstead graduating with honors from Halstead High School and excelled as a pianist and organist.

He attended Bethel Collete until he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in June 1942. He served in the Alaska Air Command for six months and in the China, Burma, India Theatre until WW II ended. He resumed his education at University of Kansas taking premedical studies, graduated KU Medical School in 1952. He married Jacqueline O. Goodbary and began an internship in Phoenix, Arizona, finishing his surgical residency in Youngstown, Ohio and a surgical oncolooogy fellowship at M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston, Texas. He chose to return home to practice at the Hertzler Clinic for 28 years.

He and Jackie reared their children, Steven Dean, John Arthur and Mary Ann in Halstead. Besides a busy practice of surgery, Dean enjoyed restoring a theater pipe organ and three reproducing grand pianos to prime condition. He was active in his professional organizabetions at all levels and was a member of the International College of Surgeons. He served as president of Boards of Halstead Hospital and Hertzler Clinic as an elder, treasurer, choir member and organist of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a 50 year member of Masonis Lodge and OES; a member of Halstead Historical Society and Hertzler Research Foundation Board of Directors. He was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by his hometown.

He was preceded in death by Parents and is survived by his wife, Jackie, son Steven, son, Dr. John and daughter, Mary Ann Burnett of Denver, Colorado.

Memorial service will be Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church.
