Sumpter, Cecil R.

Halstead Independent

Cecil R. Sumpter, 72, Newton, former Halstead resident, died May 22, 1990 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. He was born July 1. 1917 at Newton, son of Robert V. and Iva Josephine Steele Sumpter. He married Phyllis I. Bock February 10, 1938 at Newton. He had been a resident of Newton for 16 years, moving from Halstead. He was a retired Boering Computer Services programmer.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a life member of the American Legion Post 123, Halstead. He was also a member of the 40 and 8 Club. He was on the Board of Directors of Northview Developmental Services and a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, both of Newton. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

Survivors: wife of the home; daughter, Mary Jo Hall, Halstead; sister, Maxine Batchelor, Newton and 3 grandchidren, Mike Hall, Michelle Hall and Mark Hall, all of Halstead.

Services were held Saturday morning May 26 at Kaufman Funeral Home. Burial was in Halstead Cemetery.
