Pioneer Day Teacher Dies At Sedgwick

Oscar O. Adamson taught rural schools, farmed in Sedgwick Community

Oscar O. Adamson, 79, resident of the Sedgwick community since 1874, died late Monday, March 19, 1939, at his home in Sedgwick following a long illness. Adamson was preceeded in death by his wife, Lottie A. six weeks ago and by that of his youngest son, Glen Adamson, who died a week ago. Mrs. Lottie Adamson was the daughter of the late M.C. Carnahan of Sedgwick.

Adamson, a native of Indiana, came to Kansas with his parents when he was 14. In his young manhood he taught in rural schools near Sedgwick, later became a farmer and retired nine years ago and moved into Sedgwick. He was a charter member of the Sedgwick Christian church.

Surviving are four sons; Alta C., 543 South Ash; Earl, Sedgwick; Laurence, Fort Worth, TX; and Paul (Longton); three daughters: Mrs. Grace Kane, Oklahoma City; Mrs George Osborn, Sedgwick, and Mrs. Leo Grattan, 431 North Yale; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday (March 22) at 2:00 pm in the Sedgwick Christian church. Burial will be made at Hillside cemetery at Sedgwick with Duff & Sons mortuary of Newton in charge.
