Adamson, Keith - Personal History

History

Retired December 31, 1970 with rank of Minister-Counselor in the U.S. Foreign Service (simulated rank of Major General). Last post was Counselor of Embassy and Director of the U.S. Information Service, Thailand. Arrived in Honolulu fron Bangkok in January 1971 and accepted appointment as Executive Officer of the East-West Poulation Institute. Served frequently as Acting Director including 1974 and 1980-82. Retired from EWC but still have active role.

Graduate of George Washington University and the Army War College (Resident Calll of 1959). Served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve during WWII (First Naval District and Seventh Fleet). Foreign Service assignments included Egypt (3 years); Turkey (2 1/2 yrs);Colombia (2 yrs); Vietnam (1 1/2 yrs as deputy director of JUSPAO(Joint U.S. Public Affairs Office); Laos (2 yrs); plus TDY in Syria, Lebanon, France, Mexico, Guatemala, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Panama, Philippines and Okinawa.

Served 1963-1967 as Deputy Director and Acting Director (1965) of the Voice of America.

Appointed Honorary Consul for Chile in March 1982. Has served as Secretary and Vice Dean of the Consular Corps of Hawaii and is Dean of the Corps for 1992. (Consul General Hogen of Japan is Vice Dean.)

Is on Board of Directors, Pacific and Asian Affairs Council (PAAC); member Honolulu Committee on Foreign Relations; Army Officers Club System; Friends of East-West Center; Navy League; Bishop Museum; Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge; and is active with Episcopal Church in Hawaii (two terms Diocesan Council and one as member of Vestry at Church of the Holy Nativity).

Merged families with wife Robin (twice widowed, Army and USMC) for total of eight children, 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Robin is retired civilian employee of the Army and member of the Army Golf Association.
