Emma Jane Hand, 94, Halstead, died Thursday, April 6, 1995 at the Halstead Hospital. She was born December 21, 1900 at rural Bentley, Kansas, the daughter of Karl and Christina Berger Wolf. She grew up on the family farm two miles west of Bentley. She was a 1919 graduate of Bentley High School and attended Emporia Teachers College.

She married Norman J. Hand January 29, 1921 at Newton. They moved to Colorado where they owned and operated hotels. They returned to Halstead in 1964 from Grand Junction, Colorado. Her husband died October 30, 1969.

She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, rural Bentley; a member of Friendship EHU and in 1975 she received the "Good Neighbor: award at the annual Old Settler's celebration. During the 1970's, she helped with the Girl Scout program in Halstead.

Survivors include four sons, Norman Hand, Jr., Amarillo, Texas; William Hand, Aurora, Colorado; Clarence (Chuck) Hand, Phoeniz, Arizona and Bruce Hand, Los Banos, California; one daughter, Joy Hand, Cheyenne Wyoming; one sister, Edith Wolf, rural Bentley; 15 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Wolf, Henry Wolf, and Bill Wolf and two sisters, Minnie Ringland and Mary Young.

Funeral was Saturday, April 8 at Bethany Baptist Church with Pastor Dugene Bandy. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
