Richard Lee Richey, 55, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at his residence in Burrton. He was born on Dec. 17, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo., to Earl and Nadine Elizabeth Richey. On Oct. 3, 1997, he married Sandra Kay Anderson in Kansas City, Mo. She survives of the home. Richard enjoyed his country home. He liked to collect guns and target practice. He also enjoyed caring for his chickens and spending time with his special dog. Boating and fishing also were pastimes he enjoyed. He collected John Wayne memorabilia and hats. Family was very important to him, and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his loving grandchildren, family and friends. Survivors include wife Sandra (Anderson) Richey of Burrton; daughter Tera Richey; brother, Bill Richey of Carthage, Mo.; grandson, Andrew Contreras of Newton; grandson, Michael Moore of Newton; and granddaughter, Maddy Moore of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will receive friends during the evening visitation. There will be a private family burial. Memorials may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
