Emma Johanna Sanders, 96, Burrton, died Sunday, August 3, 1998 at Buhler Sunshine Home, Buhler. She was born February 11, 1902 at Abilene, the daughter of John and Emma Bross Schwendener. She graduated from Halstead Hospital School of Nursing in 1921. A Burrton resident for the past 60 years, moving to Buhler in 1991, she worked for the Mary L. Nursing Home, Burrton.

she belonged to Burrton Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Farm Bureau and Friendship Circle, all at Burrton.

In 1924 she married Clarence H. Sanders. He died in 1968. Survivors include a daughter, June Grant, Auckland, New Zealand; stepdaughter, Verda McElwain, Hutchinson; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma McIlrath; stepson, Vestal Ray Sanders; 3 brothers; a sister and a grandson.

Services were August 27 at Buhler Mortuary, Buhler with the Rev. Roland Wolfe presiding. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
