Inez Friesen, 84, Newton, formerly of Halstead, died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at Newton Medical Center. She was born April 28, 1915 in Halstead, the daughter of Cornelius D. and Adena Becker Unruh. She was a homemaker and volunteer fixing meals at church. She also worked for Mrs. McKnight preparing meals for railroaders. She enjoyed flower gardening and playing the piano. She was baptized at Grace Mennonite Church in Halstead in March 1933 and joined First Mennonite Church in Newton in February of 1945.

On March 16, 1941, she married Clifford Friesen at the Friesen home in rural Newton. He survives of Newton.

Other survivors include two sons, Stephen Friesen, McPherson and Jerry Friesen, Wichita; daighter, Janice Brockleman, Moberly, Missouri; five sisters, Elizabeth Schmidt, Winton, California; Lydia Unruh, Montezuma; Nina Unruh, Halstead; Pearl Kater, Wichita, and Clara Penner, Newton; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sue Ann Friesen; six brothers, Abe Unruh, Dave Unruh, Jake Unruh, Marcus Unruh, Cornelius Unruh and Raymond Unruh; three sisters, Susie Smith, Malinda Koehn and Sarah Croy.

Funeral was Wednesday, September 1 at First Mennonite Church in Newton with Pastor Clarence Rempel presiding. Burial was in Restlawn Gardens of Memory, Newton.
