Roper, Robert Dellburn

Halstead Independent

Robert Dellburn Roper, 77, Salina, former Halstead resident died Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at his home. He was born June 22, 1921 at Halstead, the son of Christian and Eula Hunt Roper. He graduated from Halstead High School in 1939 and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. He had been a Salina resident for 11 years, moving from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was employed by Douglas-North American & Rockwell, McDonnell Aircraft Companies in Oklahoma,a retiring as a manuracturing engineer. He also had a number of small businesses.

For the past eight years, he played the electric bass with The Vaughn Belton Band and Dwayne Muller Band. He also wrote many arrangements for the Jack Schulz Band.

He was a veteran of World
war II, serving as a B-19 bombardier. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians.

Survivors: son, Robert Jeff Roper and wife, Ramona, Salina; brother, Christian D. "jim" Roper, Dallas, Texas; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1962 and a son, Chris Allen Roper in 1995.

The body was cremated.
