Alexander C. Miles, prominent farmer in the Putman community for more than 40 years, died early Tuesday morning at the Halstead hospital where he been taken early Sunday morning following a stroke.

He was born January 12, 1873 in Drummore, Scotland. He was 80 yuears old at the time of his passing. He came to America at the age of 17, first living in Illinois and coming to Kansas in 1907. In 1911 he began farming in the Putman community.

Always active in Community and church affairs, he served on the school board and on the Harvey County Production Marketing committee.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Halstad and an honorary life member of the Newton council of Knights of Columbus.

Survivors: his widow, the former Sarah Madden, to whom he was married January 2, 1899 at Mendota, Illinois; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Titus, Halstead; Mrs. E. M. Coughlin, Newton and Miss Mabel Miles, Lansing, Michigan; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services were Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Halstead with Rev. Fr. Daniel E. Lynch officiatin. Burial was in Halstead Cemetery.
