Mrs. Charles F. Allen

Mrs. Hope Ann Allen, 73, wife of Charles F. Allen of 608 E 4th, died Tuesday evening at Bethel Deaconess Hospital.

Mrs. Allen was born Jul 23, 1887 in LyCygne, Kas., and had been a resident of Newton since 1936.

As a young girl she moved with her parents to Doniphan, Mo., and attended public schools there, Hardin College at Mexico, Mo., and Miss Higbee Finishing School at Memphis, Tenn. She and Mr. Allen were married Dec. 3, 1912 in Doniphan.

While living in Doniphan, Mrs. Allen was active in the Red Cross and established the library.

She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church, Chapter AG, P.E.O., and the Aldine Club. During World War II she was head of the USO in Newton.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Dr. Frances Ann Allen of the home and Mrs. Robert McNail of Decatur, Ill.; one son, James H. of Newton; and six grandchildren. Another son, Charles Preston Allen, died in November 1919.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the 1st Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Floyd E. Kaiser will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Moody-Peterson Funeral Home.
