James H. "Jim" Reber, 68, former Harvey County Treasurer, died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at his home in rural Newton. He was born February 27, 1933 in Newton, son of Henry B. and Mollie Phillips Reber. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He married Elizabeth Smith September 7, 1957 in Sedgwick.

He retired as Harvey County treasurer in October. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Newton; a member and past president of the Newton Lions Club; a member of the American Legion and member and past president of the Kansas State Treasurers Association. He enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Survivors: wife of the home; two sons, Bryan, Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Steve, Newton; sister-in-las-, Mary Alice Reber, Newton; 2 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence Reber.

Services were held Monday morning at the First Methodist Church in Newton. Burial was in Greeenwood Cemetery.
