Gertrude Bendon Hastints, 99, Newton, formerly of Secgwick, died Monday, February 24, 2003 at Friendly Acres Retirement Community, Newton, Kansas. She was born February 22, 1904 at Seneca, daughter of William James and Gertrude Vohs Bendon.

She was a teacher and caregiver for the Institute of Logopedics and Wichita Children's Home, both of Wichita and Housemother at Girls Industrial Home, Beloit.

On October 14, 1935 she married Francis M. "Dick" Hastings at Washington. He preceded her in death March 3, 1949.'

She was a member of Sedgwick United Methodist Church and EMF Sunday School Class since 1938. She was a 1923 graduate of St. Peter and Pauls High School, Seneca.

Survivors: grandson, Charles John Hastings, Vermillion, Ohio; granddaughter, Kerry Ann Hastings, Winfield. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Hastings; step-daughter, Mabel Rose; brothers, William Bendon and Leo Bendon; seven sisters, Susan Bennett, Ella Beecham, Inez Hill, Jessie Brummett, Cecil Bendon, Newllie Krause and Ada Bendon.'

Services wer held Monday, March 3 at Kaufman Funeral Home. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick.
