Mary A. Hitch, 101, lifelong Burrton resident, died Friday, September 5, 2003 at the Mt. Hope Nursing Center where she had resided since 2001. She was born June 17, 1902 at Burrton, the daughter of Thomas Colter and Grace Maud Hyde Roberts. She was a long-distance operator for Consolidated Telephone Company, a waitress for the G & V Cafe in Burrton and a homemaker.

She married Edward Lee Neuway, March 28, 1922 at Wichita. He died July 20, 1967. She maried Luttrell M. Hitch July 4, 1973 at Burrton, he died October 7, 1983. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors: three sons, Robert L. Neuway, Burrton, Keith L. Neuway, Mt. Hope and Ronald G. Neuway, Burrton; two daughters, Betty J. Collins, Jamestown, Kansas and Beth Hunter, Wichita; two brothers, James A. Roberts, Anderson, Missouri and Donald C. Roberts, LaHarbara Heights, California; sister, Elsie Horner, Pico Rivera, California; 15 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, E. Ray Neuway, Stepsons, Robert L. Hitch and Evan O. Hitch; brothers, Fred Roberts, Ernest Roberts, Ray Roberts, Tom Roberts, Howard Roberts and Claude Robertss; sister, Lola Cunningham, grandson, Gary Dean Collins and a great granddaughter, Jamie Collins.

Services were held September 8 at the Burrton Christian Church conducted by the Rev. Sherman Sack with burial in the Burrton cemetery.
