Dorothea Thrasher Knauss, 88, mother of Richard Thrasher, Halstead, died January 21, 2003 at Friendly Acres Retirement Community, Newton. She was born December 6, 1914 at Springdale, Arizona, daughter of William L. and Lula Grace Sweeney Webber.

She married Joseph Z. Thrasher. He preceded her in death. On July 3, 1977,, she married Edgar O. Knauss at Newton. He died September 12, 2002.

She was a former employee of the Hertzler Clinic. She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Newton; was a 50 year member of Eastern Star and former grand matron. She was a member of Sorosis Club and PEO Club, all of Newton.

Other survivors: a daughter, Joan Stahly, Newton; stepson, Clifford D. Knauss; stepdaughter, Jane Welding, Long Beach, California; sister, Georgia Edmonds, Stafford, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Holdefer; brother, Homer Webber and sister, Lucille Bailey.

Memorial services were held at Friendly Acres Chapel. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
