William Edward Rowlands was born in Ffestiniog, North Wales on April 3, 1870. He immigrated to America in May 1886, locating at Burrton, Kansas, making his home with his Uncle Dick Rowlands. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railway Co. for 22 years, retiring as a passenger enginer and was a resident of Emporia and Bonner Springs.

He married Mrs. Nellie Kiddoo on May 7, 1933 and they made their home at Emporia. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church of Emporia. Saturday morning, May 8, he suffered a slight heart attack and was removed to the home of his step-daughter and son, Mr. & Mrs. Orville C. Hollis of Burrton, where a fatal heart attack occured Monday Night, May 10. 1937, aged 67 years.

He is survived by his widow and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 12 at the R. J. Jones Home. Interment was in the Burrton Cemetery.
