Lawrence “Daffy” VanBuren, 69, of Newton, died on Monday (Feb. 20, 2012) at Salem Home in Hillsboro.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1942, in Florence, the son of Robert and Stella Piper VanBuren. He was raised in the Florence and Barnsdall, Okla., areas. Larry lived in Walton for five years and many years in Newton. Larry did factory work for several years, working at American Coach /DMH and later Gerdens. He also worked in housekeeping at Newell’s Truck Stop. He was an avid bowler, loved fishing, and enjoyed collecting thousands of record albums and movies.

Survivors include three brothers, Richard of Peabody, Ronnie of El Dorado and Harold of Wichita; four sisters, Genevieve Wacker of Wichita, Aldonna Mickle of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Winifred Jones of Okemah, Okla., and Bonnie Romack of Edmond, Okla. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward; and sister, Geneva.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday (Feb. 24, 2012) at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence. Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home of Newton.
