Billy Beckham, 16, sophomore, died suddenly last Thursday while practicing for the Bucklin relays. Bill was late for practice and after warming up briefly ran a fast 220 yards. He collapsed and was rushed to Halstead where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The parents requested an autopsy to find the cause of death and it was found he had lobar pneumonia.

He was an active member in sports, he played football, basketball and was a promising track man. He was in Kays and glee club.

George William Beckhem, fondly known as "Billy" was born January 6, 1942 in Halstead, son of Mr. & Mrs. W. R. Beckham. He departed this life on Thursday, April 16 at the age of 16 years, 3 months and 11 days.

Left to mourn his sudden and untimely passing are the parents; two sisters, Carol Sue and Janice, all of the home; grandmother, Mrs. Sue Corlett, Houston, Texas.

He was an explorer scout and a member of the Kansas Association for Youth. He loved all outdoor activities. His great respect and deep devotion to the member of the family were known to all who knew and loved him. He was immersed into Christ on November 18, 1956 and held membership in the Christian church of Burrton.
