Graveside services were conducted at the Westmacott burial plot in Burrton Cemetery on Monday, December 30, 1958 for Gertrude Westmacott Garvin of Long Beach, California. The Rev. Fred Croft of Hutchinson red the Episcopal service. Mrs. Garvin's sister-in-law, Mrs. Maude Westmacott Hill accompanied the body from California. Mrs. Garvin's two surviving brothers, Tom Westmacott of Nowata, Oklahoma and Stanley Westmacott of Holyrood were present at the service. The third brotheer, Harry, died several years ago. One sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Gibbs lives in Colorado Springs and the other one, Mrs. Elsie Wilson in Wells, Nevada.

The Westmaott and Garvin families came to this coountry from England and established homes in Burrton and also engaged in business here when this town was just a thriving trade center for settlers moving into this region. Mrs. Garvin's father, Percival Westmacott, operated a large lumber and hardware business in Burrton.

Manay of the older residents of Burrton will remember the associations of the Westmacott and Garvin families with the business, social and religious life of our town before the small towns' growth was handicapped by the advent of the motor vehicles.
