Baughman, Ethel Freese

Ethel Freese Baughman was born September 27, 1887 at Wellington, Kansas to Hester and Oran Freese. She passed away February 3, 1971 at Haven, Kansas, at the age of 83. She was married to Francis Edward Baughman on June 5, 1912 at Hutchinson. They made their residence at his farm five miles southwest of Burrton for 55 years. For the past 3 1/2 years they have lived at Colonial Manor at Haven.


She became the mother of Ed's three daughters who had lost their mother four years before. Each of them preceded her in death; Leah, Mrs. Andrew Wiley; Gladys, Mrs. Roscoe Taylor; and Norma, Mrs. Charley Grubbs. Five children were born to Ethel and Ed.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Burrton and served as Junior Superintendent of the Sunday School and teacher for many years. She was a membeer and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; three daughters, Mrs. Vada Hudspeth; Mrs. Frances Rexer and Mrs. Faye Allen; two sons, Ray Baughman and Ralph Baughman; 27 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Eunice Payne; Mrs. Vada Shober and Mrs. Grace Mooberry; two brothers, Reid Freese and Ralph Freese.

Services wer held at the Church on February 6. Burial was in the Burrton Cemetery.
