Lewis M. Short, 58, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 11, 1973 at his farm. He was a farmer and lifetime resident here. He suffered a heart attack while working in the field Wednesday afternoon and was pronoounced dead upon arrival at Halstead Hospital. He had served as mayor for the City of Burrton and was presently a member of the City Council, director of the State Bank of Burrton and a member of the Eagles Lodge.

He was born July 14, 1914 at Burrton and married Jean Giggy on August 19, 1936 at Liberal, Kansas.

Survivors: widow of the home; sons, Larry , Hoffman Estates, Illinois; Jerry, Houston, Texas; Allen, Burrton; Phillip, of the home; daughter, Mrs. David Graybill, Newton; sister, Mrs. Vivian White, Nowata, Oklahoma; aunt, Miss Mertie Short, Hutchinson and ten grandchildren.

Services were held July 15 at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Victor. Burial was in Burrton Cemetery.
