Jean (Bishop) Joseph

Female 1920 - 2012  (91 years)

Joseph, Jean

Jean Bishop Joseph passed away March 2, 2012.

She was born August 20, 1920, the only child of Frank and Jessie Bishop of Whitewater. She was raised in Whitewater, with the help of doting aunts until she left for Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., where she made lifelong friendships. She graduated from Kansas State University, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She married Charles B. Joseph, attorney and state senator, and with him raised their three sons in Potwin. In addition to managing the books for the family farm business, Jean loved the outdoors. She could always find excuses for being outside tending to her flowers and gardens and making sure the bird feeders were filled. She loved road trips whether they were in the neighborhood or across the nation. She enjoyed maps and knew every landmark between Potwin and the family cabin in Estes Park. Many good times and memories were made there with family and friends. Always gracious and kind, Jean was happiest with family around and just “being all together.”

Preceded in death by Charles, her husband of 57 years, Jean is survived by sons: Alan (Diane) Joseph of Wichita; Frederic Joseph of Potwin; and Robert (Terry) Joseph of Estes Park, Colo. ‘Momo’ was the beloved grandmother to Jennifer (Scott) Johnson of Denver, Colo.; Marjo (Matt) Grabowski of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Emily (Ryan) McGee of Denver, Colo.; Jack (Mindy) Joseph of Prairie Village; Lesli Joseph of Flagstaff, Ariz.; Sally (Jeremy) Podany of Shawnee; and Drew Joseph of Estes Park, Colo.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Federated Church in Whitewater, Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 11 o’clock. Memorials may be sent to the Federated Church or Wheat State Manor in care of Lamb Funeral Home, 120 S. Main, Whitewater, KS 67154.
