Miller, Albert

Halstead Independent

The funeral of Albert Miller, better known as Ab. Miller, held from the Chapel at the Cheatum & Langenwalter place of business last Thursday afternoon was very largely attended by old friends and neighbors who came as a mark of tribute of respect to the departed, who held in high esteem by all who knew him for his rugged honesty simplicity of character and well known desire to lead an upright life in the community of which he had been a part for more than half a century.

Albert Miller was born in Cass county, Virginia, Illinois on January 17, 1851 and died at the Halstead Hospital of cerebral hemorrage November 9, 1923. He was 73 years, 9 months and 23 days old.

When about 18 years of age, he moved with his parents to Kansas and after spending two years at different points, located on a farm three miles northwest of Halstead where he lived until the time of his death. He seemed to be in his usual good for a man of his age, until about three weeks before his death, was taken to the hospital by neighhbors on Saturday, preceding his death the following Friday.

He was of a retiring nature having the welfare of others at heart, often denying himself many privileges in caring for an aged father who passed away about fifteen years ago. Since that time he lived alone, still plying his trade as the country side blacksmith.

He was a good neighbor, honest and conscientious and one of Halstead's most highly respected citizens. He leaves to mourn his death two brothers, Stephen Miller of Wichita and Frank Miller of southern Calaifornia.

Remains were laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery by the side of his father and mother who had preceded him by many years.
