Elmer A. Nightingale, 88, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Veterans Nursing Home in Wichita. He was born May 9, 1918 to Tobias and Carrie Unruh Nightingale in Halstead. They preceded him in death. He married Nellie M. Yoke on September 12, 1941 in Blackfoot, Idaho. She survives of the home.

Elmer served his country in the U. S. Army duriing World War II. He was a member of New Life Assembly of God
Church in Newton. He retired from the city of Newton after 29 years as the sexton of Greenwood Cemetery. He enjoyed spending time fishing and reading the Bible. One of his great enjoyments was spending time with his family and friends.

Other survivors: sons, Jerry and Terri Nightingale of Newton; daughters, Geneva Shive, North Newton and Carrie and James Ayers of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister, Martha Bohrn of Sedgwick; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
