Charlie M. Loyd, retired salesman, passed away Monday, August 14, 2006. He was born July 2, 1914 in Valley Center and grew up on his family's dairy farm near Sedgwick. He attended Sedgwick High School and graduated in 1932.

He wanted to pursue dairy production as a career but because he had asthma and hay fever, his father convinced him to avoid farming. He decided to attend Kansas State College and study dairy manufacturing. He earned his master's degree in dairy manufacturing in 1939. He worked as an assistand production manager at Southern Dairies, Washington, D.C. until 1941 when World War II began, Charles joined the Army and worked as a meat inspector.

He met his future wife, Janice Hoffman Loyd who was
working as an Army nurse at Camp Davis, North Carolina. They were married in the spring of 1942. He returned from the European Theater in 1946 and began a career in production and sales for the Eskimo Pie Co., that would last 14 years. He joined Dodson Manfacturing, Wichita, as a sales representative in 1960. He sold silos, dairy barns and automatic feeding equipment for 30 years until his retirement.

Charlie was a member of the Masonic Lodge; American Legion; Plymouth Congretational Church and the KSU Foundation's President' Club. He will always be remembered by his family and friends as a wonderful and captivating storyteller.


He us survived by his children, Marilyn and Wayne Mason, Wichita; Jim and Terrie Loyd, Sedgwick and Linda and Steven Joseph, Council Grove; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grand children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Hoffman Loyd, parents, Charlie and Loraine Loyd and brother, Paul Loyd.

Services will be August 18 at Plymouth Congregational Church with burial in the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
