Carrie Hassiinger Shafer, 80, died Sunday at Meadowlark Homestead in Newton where she had lived for the past five years.

Mrs. Shafer was born January 16, 1882 and lived her entire life in the Halstead vicinity. She was maarried to Floyd Shafer in April of 1904. Mr. Shafer died in November 1944. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at the First United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Donald Schroeder officiating.

Mrs. J. W. McDowell was organist and Mrs. W. D. Nelligan was solist, singing Beautiful Garden of Prayer and Near to the Heart of God.

Casket bearers were Vernon Popkins, Walter Lehman, Reuben Buller, Sam Bauman, Beryl Haiber and Sanford Smith.

Entombment was in the Halstead Mausoleum.
