Lauren Curry Phillips, 88, Sedgwick, died December 23, 2007 at Newton Medical Center in Newton. He was born February 25, 1919 at Newton to his parents, Samuel Clayton Phillips and Minnie Vesper. He was a graduate of Newton High School.

He was a longtime member of Sedgwick's Plymouth Congregational Church UCC where he served as a deacon for many years.

For medical reasons, he was unable to serve his country in active duty duriing WWII, however, he supported the war effort by designing and making tools that were used to build airplanes. He was a very patrotic man who loved his coountry. He loved nature and was a hunter and fisherman. He delighted in teaching his grandchildren those skills while also teaching them to love and respect God's creatures.

He was a tremendous role model for his grandchildren and delighted in each one.

He is survived by wife, Ada Phillips, Newton; daughter, Sharon and Walter Sanders, Commerce, Texas; son, James Clayton and Judy Phillips, Fort Worth, Texas; brother, William Phillips; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grand children.

Services were held at the church with burial in Hillside Cemetery.
