Daisy Dolores Challender, 92, teacher, dairy farmer and former columnist for the Harvey Couonty Independent and Newton Kansan died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Riverside Village, Wichita.

She was born November 19, 1915 at Abbyville to Alfred Boston and Daisy Wright Horton, both deceased. On June 2, 1940 she married Willard Alton Challender at Abbyville, He died November 8, 1986.

She was a member of Sedgwick United Methodist Church, UMW; Athena Club and Sedgwick Senior Citizens; Esther Circle. She was a 4-H leader and belonged to Beta Rho Bridge Club and Pinnocle Club, all of Sedgwick. She was a member of the Newton Writers Club.

Survivors: Sons, Craig, Farmville, Virginia; Paul, Emporia; daughters, Beth Holloway, Wichita; Joy Child, Putnam, Conn; Melinda Latimore, Halstead; sister, Rosemary Heusted, Topeka and sister-in-law Maxine Smith, Newton; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and one step grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Kent Challender; daughter, Tamara Sue Challender and brother, Vernon Horton.

Services will be Saturday, July 19 at the Church. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick.
