Richard L. McMurry Sr. 78, died November 10, 2008 at Halstead Health and Rehab, Halstead. He was born January 28, 1930 in Mt. Hope, son of Ernest and Vera Preston McMurry.

On June 12, 1949 he married Mary Louise Weve in Patterson. She survives. A longtime resident and farmer of the Mt. Hope and Burrton area, he was a member of the Federated Church of Mt. Hope.

He and his wife owned and operated Mac's Derby and Cafe of Mt. Hope. Richard retired from Cessna/Eaton Fluid Power after 40 years as a machinist. After retirement, he and his wife served as camp hosts at Cheney Park. His many interests included camping with friends and family, fishing in Minnesota, high school sports, Boy Scouts and aviation.

Survivors: five sons, Richard Jr. (Pam), Mt. Hope, James (Nancy), Pretty Prairie; Charles; Anthony; Bill (Candy) Burrton and Ed (Abby), Halstead; one daughter, Rosemary Vaughn (Steve), Halstead; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.

Richard was also father to his brother-in-law Fritz Weve and sister-in-law Leah Weve Akred whom he raised after the death of their mother. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ernestine McMurry Metcalf.

Services were held at Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Mr. Hope. Burial was in Star Cemetery, Mt. Hope. Kansas.
