Galle, Lorraine

Harvey County Independent


Lorraine Galle, 81, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Bethesda h ome in Goessel.  She was born May 8, 1927 in Valley Center to Oswin K. and Sara Schmidt Galle.  She graduated from Valley Center High School in 1945 and Bethel College in 1950.  She received a master's degree in 1955 from Kansas State University.  She served as the Dean of Women at Bethel College from 1955 to 1961.

 

She then graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Masters degree in Psychiatric Social Work.  She worked at the Topeka State Hospital prior to accepting a position with the Halstead Hospital where she worked from 1968 to 1994.

 

She was a member of the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita, where she regularly participated.  Shortly following her retirement, she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.  She maintained her independence and kept up with her activities as long as her body would allow.  She and her sister, Lillian, moved  in together so Lillian could help her with her physiical needs.  She enjoyed spending time with her loving family and friends.

 

Survivors: Brothers, Karmie and Edna Galle, Lawrence; Omar and Zona Galle, Liberty,Hills, Texas; sisters, Lillian Galle, North Newton; Darlene and Ted Wynn, Council Bluff, Iowa; Kathryn Vogt, Wichita.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marianna Ruth Hall and brother-in-law, John Vogt.

 

Graveside services were held at the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick, Kansas.
