Stevenson, Doris Leota

Harvey County Independent

Doris Leota Stevenson, 88, died February 3,  2010 at Newton Medical Center.  She was born February 16. 1921 in Atlanta to Ora and Livona Jones Sturm.  She was married to Floyd Thomas for 31 years and later married Hale Steveenson who died in 1977.

 

She was employed at Boeing Aircraft Industrries for 20 plus years.  She served as a Red Cross site manager for Meals on Wheels in Halstead.  She was an active member of the Newton Christian Church for over 20 years.  She enjoyed working with her hands and crocheted and embroided.  She enjoyed traveling , loved her family and was a "beloved babysitter".  She had a special place in her heart for babies, children and her dog, Muffin.

 

Survivors: son, Gary and Pam Thomas, of Edmond, Oklahoma; Mike and Leta Thomas, Halstead; DeAnn and Will Titus of Newton; stepsons, Ted and Debbie Stevenson, Selbyville, Deleware; step-daughter, Andrea and John Ulbrich of Heathville, Virginiia; brother-in-law Helton and Diana Stevenson of  Victoria, Texas; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by sisters, Edna Casebolt and Alta Faye Belillo and brother, Lee D. Strum.

 

Services were held at Newton Christian Church.  Memorials to Newton Christian Church Building Fund and Caring Hands Humane Society, Newton.
