Allen Miller, the oldest settler iin this part of the county, both as to  his age and length of time he had lived here died at his home northwest of Halstead Wednesday eveniing of last week after a long illness.

 

The deceased located on the farm where he died as a  homestead on July 4, 1870 and had lived there continuiously ever since.  He was more familiary known as "Coonskin" Miller, from the nature of his headgear in the early days.

 

Mr. Miller ws born in 1813 and was therefore past ninety-five years of age.  He maintained his mental faculities until the last.  He leaves three sons, Abner, with whom he lived, Stephen of Wichita and Frank of Missouri.

 

The funeral was held from the late home Friday afternoon and was attended by a large number of his friends and neighbors.  Interment was made in the family lot in Fairview cemetery where his wife and a daughter are buried.
