Walters, Francis J.

Harvey County Independent

   Francis J. "Frank" Walters, 89, of Topeka, died December 23, 2012 at St.  Francis Health Center.  He was born on December 8, 1923,in Hays, the son of Jacob Peter and Amalia Staab Walters.

   He owned and operated Halstead Hosital Coffee Shop for 28 years ahd the Shawnee County Court House Snack Bar forr eight years.  He was a memberof St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Topeka Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired.

   He will be most remembered for his love of his children and his grandchildren.  His family was very important to him.

   Frank married Betty Marie Schmich on November 16, 1968 at Herdulaneum, Missouri.  She survives.  He is also survived by two daughters, Shelia (Darrell) Stevenson of Brandon, Missouri and Brenda (Steve) Dunning of Hutchinson; a brother, George Walters of Placentia, California; sister, Alice Gerstner of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; Emily Walch; Jenny Macomber and Hailey, Lauren and Grant Dunning and five great grandchildren, Ethan Kole; Addison; Bennett and Kaitlynn.  He was preceded in death by a son, Larry J. Walters on November 20. 1968; six brothers, Clarence; Ray; Elmer; Bill; Herb and Edward Walters and a sister, Luella Kuhn.

   A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday December 28 at St. Matthew Catholic Church.  Graveside inurnment was held at the Halstead Cemetery December 29.
