   L. Alvena Krueger, 88, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at Newton Presbyterian Manor.   She was born in Monte Ne, Arkansas on November 23, 1924 to G. F. and Alice Letha Tucker Bauer.  She married Dean Krueger on September 4, 1946.  Together they owned and managed Krueger Insurance Management in Newton for many years.  Dean preceded Alvena in death on January 3, 1998 after 51 years of marriage.

   Alvena was a long time active member of the First United Methodist Church iin Newton, Kansas.  She was in charge of the prayer chain, a member of the Pricilla Circle and designed "The Door" for the church bulletin.  She was a long time member of PEO Chapater Ag, Sorosis Club, Presbyterian Manor Advisory Board, Newton Tree Board, Friends of the Newton Public Library and the Newton Fine Arts Assoc.  Alvena enjoyed painting with water color and acrylics and was known as a very kind and caring lady.

   Over the past nearly 15 years she and her companion Tom Petersen enjoyed their times out for dinner and travel.  Over the past few years Alvena has struggled with dementia.  As her disease progressed she kept her good natured manner and gracefully accepted the difficult challenge in her life.  She has received excellent care and concern from the many people at the Newton Presbyterian Manor throughoout her time of declining health.

   Alvena is survived by one son, Brady and his wife Sheryl Krueger of Newton; daughter in-law Michele Krueger of Middletown, California; granddaughter Kheyala Krueger of Middletoown, California; two grandsons, Maxx Krueger of Liberty, Missouri and Balm Dakota of Santa Rosa, California; one step grandson Tacoma Vaught of Santa Rosa, California; three sisters Edwena Lipstate of Houston, Texas, Anna Mary Duckworth of Camden, South Carolina and Nancy Goldberg of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Milton Bauer of Green Acres, Florida and her companion Tom Petersen of Newton.

   She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter Leslie Jan Krueger and one son, Dale W. Krueger.

   Services will be January 29 at Petersen Funeral h ome with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
