   Marjorie Ella Guthrie, 98 of Newton, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.

   She was born December 16, 1914 in Hesston, daughter of Charles P. and Nellie Hawkey Sauerwein.

She attended schools in Newton, graduating from Newton High School in 1943.  She married George Wayne Guthrie March 31, 1936 in Norwich.  They then moved to Peabody area where Wayne and Marjorie drove a

school bus for Peabody Schools for many years.   They later moved to Newton.  He died Nov. 20,1989.

   She  had been an office manager at E & H Foam and Farm Bureau for several years.  She was a l ongtime member

member of the Salem United Methodist Church, the Double Duty Sunday School Class, Order of the

Eastern Star,  Chapter No. 5, BPW and the former Christian Hospital Auxillary.

   Survivors: son, James W. Guthrie, Silver Springns, Md; Kenneth R. Guthrie, Murphy, N.C.; Gene R. Guthrie, Conroe, Texas and Keith E. Guthrie,  Inman; brothers, William Sauerwein, Newton; Ardith Sauerwein, Peabody; sister, Virginia Bullard, Newton; 8 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren.

   Marjorie was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lou McDilda; one grandchild; her parents; husband; brother, Bob Sauerwein; sister, Glaldys Miller, Wilda Yarnell, Ruth Guthrie and Charlene Hamm, Marian Winsor, Lucille Day Putnam and

Elaine Stehman.

   Services will be February 5 at Colonial Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the Walton Cemetery.
