Rachel Jean (Giggy) Short Shaft

Rachel Jean Shaft, 91, Burrton, died Monday, October 9, 2006 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born March 4, 1915 in rural Burrton, the daughter of Alonzo Burton and Carra G. Hamma Giggy.

On August 19, 1936 she married Melvin Short at Newton. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1973. On May 14, 1979 "She married Forrest G. "Chick" Shaft at Park City. He preceded her in death January 1, 1983.

She was a manager of the former Mary L. Home, Burrton and a homemaker. She was a member of the Burrton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Burrton and Rebekahs Lodge, Mr. Hope.

Survivors: sons, Jerry Short, Bennington; Allen Short, Hutchinson and Philip Short, Burrton; daughter, LuJean Graybill, Pukalani, Hawaii; brother, Gordon Giggy, Newbury, Pa; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Short: brothers, Kenneth Giggy; Karl Giggy and Keith Giggy and sisters Berenice Ragland; ilda Dunn; Hopi McElwain and Eliabeth Armstrong.

Services were held October 13 at Burrton United Methodist Church. Cremation followed with inurnment in the Burrton Cemetery.
